D’vida Injury Clinic & Wellness Center
Have you ever noticed the nice, soft, fluffy flannel sheets while visiting your alternative healthcare provider for a massage or acupuncture visit? Ever wonder who might be responsible for the clean, fresh laundry? At D’vida Injury Clinic and Wellness Center in Beaverton, Carlo Umanzor, a 21-year-old who experiences Autism, takes great pride in making sure patients receive this special treatment. His ability to learn new tasks, follow instructions and focus on his work make a perfect fit for the job of washing, drying and meticulously folding the sheets. Carlo shared; “It’s a pretty great job… I learned how to use this washer and dryer and I make sure there are clean sheets for the patients”.
Carlo graduated from Beaverton High School with a modified diploma and then and graduated from the school district’s Community Transition Program where he participated in on-the-job training opportunities that included folding laundry at Bethany Athletic Club. This experience allowed Sr. Employment Specialist, Glenn Bishop with Dirkse Counseling & Consulting, Inc. to observe Carlo and learn that he would be a good fit for this type of position.
Matching abilities with a business need is one of the primary goals of Dirkse Counseling Consulting, Inc. when they work with the employer and the job seeker. They assess the business process and identify potential jobs and tasks that might be causing a back-log or take away from other pressing duties such as checking in patients, verifying insurance benefits or answering the phones. They match those tasks to the job seeker with specific abilities and skill sets creating a “win-win” for the individual, the business and the community.
Michelle Whittaker, Owner and licensed Acupuncturist at D’vida stated, “It’s truly been such a pleasure having Carlo on board with our team. We were pleasantly surprised at what a wonderful attitude he had and how great he has fit in to the culture of our clinic. He has added value and joy to our team and is a lot of fun to work with!”
