Moving the clock forward for daylight savings time may cause us to reflect on how we are spending our time. How can you balance spending time on the things you enjoy and the things you have to do?

Pay attention to how you’re spending your time. As you notice what activities are taking up most of your time, you may notice opportunities to save time.

Organize your space. We often waste time hunting for things we need. Take the time to put things away after you use them, so they’ll be easier to find next time.

Prioritize. Taking time to make a list and organizing your day could help you spend your time more efficiently.

Create routines. Having a set time to clean the house or pay bills can help these tasks go faster.

Schedule time for yourself. Take some time to do something you enjoy. This could be spending a few minutes reading a book for fun, or taking a walk during your lunch break. Even a short break can help you feel more energized to work on less fun activities.

Start small. While you probably can’t change your schedule overnight, there are probably opportunities to start making changes. You may want to try making your lunch the evening before, so you have more time to relax during your lunch break. Choose a few things to try and start incorporating them into your routine.

Feeling overwhelmed? Counseling can help you feel less stressed and work toward a better work/life balance.
