Summer is in full swing. Undeniably the best season in the Pacific Northwest, it’s the perfect time to adventure out with the kids. While the thought of entertaining them (or at least pulling them away from constantly playing Fortnite) may seem overwhelming, Beaverton has a lot to offer when it comes to summer activities. Here are some ideas to get you started.
Berry Picking
One of the real treats of living in Washington County is the plethora of options for U-pick berry farms. For peak berry season, lather on some sunscreen and head out for an afternoon of berry picking fun.
As an added bonus, pop your berry bounty into the freezer for the perfect summer cool-down snack.
Splash pads
Swimming pools are great, but splash pads are even better. A splash pad provides tons of active fun for high-temperature days. Mom or dad can chill out in the shade or catch some rays themselves. Since most splash pads are open to the public, they make for a great inexpensive outing.
Playgrounds and Picnics
Beaverton is teeming with high-quality playgrounds. You can find something for everyone, usually within only a mile or two. That means lots of opportunities for outside playtime.
While you’re at it, why not pack a picnic? The kids can let loose for a bit, all while getting a healthy dose of Vitamin D (a win-win.)
Park Events
Concerts, theatre, and movies, oh my! THPRD hosts a variety of summertime events at parks all over the city. They make it easy to find excellent and inexpensive entertainment throughout the dog days of summer.
Backyard (or any yard) Water Fun
One of my favorite memories as a kid was running through the sprinkler in our backyard. Fast forward to today and kids have a slew of options for water fun including water tables, water balloons, slip n’ slides, and PVC concoctions circa Pinterest.
Summer Reading
The Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) offers up incredible summer reading programs for pre-readers through adults. Curl up with a good book at home, then head to the libraries for story times, entertaining shows, prizes and more.
Beaverton Night Market
The Beaverton Night Market offers a chance to learn and celebrate with your neighbors at the highly anticipated family-friendly event. The night is ALIVE with dancing, food, music, and more from a diverse range of cultures.
