Last school year, there were over 1,300 students effected by homelessness and housing instability in the Beaverton School District. Family Promise of Beaverton is proud to be part of a nationwide effort to help children and families who are experiencing homelessness regain their sustainable independence. Family Promise of Beaverton started developing this year and hopes to open its doors by Dec. 25th. We have a strong core of about 40 volunteers now and we could use that many more to ensure that we are open by the end of December.
October 16 – October 23 has been designated Family Promise Week. Family Promise works on the principle that the elements needed to help these children and their families are already in the community. The program, which is a hand up not a hand out, brings together houses of worship, community groups and their members. The goal is to provide temporary homes and facilities to provide space during the day for case management. Most importantly, thousands of volunteers who, by sharing a few hours of their time, enable families to turn their lives around.
Family Promise of Beaverton is hosting an Open House, Monday Oct. 17th 6-8pm at the Beaverton Activities Center (12500 SW Allen Blvd, Beaverton 97005) and will highlight the extent of the need right here in our community. Come find out how you can help in getting this program open. Family Promise Week will help spread community awareness of the crisis of family homelessness here in Beaverton.
