Money Magazine announced in September that Beaverton has been named one of the Best Places to Live in America for 2016. This year’s list ranks the 50 Best Small Cities in America. Beaverton ranked number 9 on the list and was the only city in Oregon selected. The magazine examined schools, affordable homes, good jobs, and community amenities.

“What an incredible honor for our community,” said Mayor Denny Doyle. “It is particularly gratifying to be recognized for our affordability, cultural inclusiveness and proximity to Nike.”

Cities with populations from 50,000 to 300,000 were evaluated on more than 60 factors including median household income, projected job growth, property values, diversity, culture, strong public schools, sports, crime rates, accessibility to health care, and more. This year’s list placed extra value on financial factors including job market, economic opportunity, and housing affordability.

Beaverton was recognized for its ethnic and cultural diversity, with one in five residents born outside the United States and nearly 100 languages spoken in the Beaverton School District.
